What you'll Learn From This Post

  1. What a CMS system actually is and how it works.

  2. How a well built and robust CMS system can benefit you and your team.

  3. About the resources that Tweyelight have put together to help you learn how to update and refresh your personal CMS system.

What is a CMS?

A Content Management System is an website tool that can be used to create and maintain similar styled pages within a website. If a website designer wants to keep continuity on a specific selection of pages they would use a CMS system to minimise the options and make adding a new page significantly more efficient.

A well built content management systems allows users to add new pages to the site without any prior knowledge of web design without having to worry about designing or styling the page.

So it’s called a content management system, content being the primary part here so let’s focus on that. Content within a site can be anything from text on a page, videos, photos, sliders, people the list goes on. The question is how does CMS manage such large and diverse arrays of content and distribute in a way that works for your business?

How Does A CMS System Affect me?

Traditionally, business have forked out hundred of thousands of pounds into their online presences, almost exclusively by third party agencies, developers and designers like Tweyelight Digital. As much as agencies like us focus a lot of time into understanding your business, we will never understand the day to day operations of your company as well as the staff themselves.

Let’s set up an example.

You are a business owner and have come to Tweyelight Digital to do a full rebrand and redesign of your online presence with your website. You spend weeks with us and finish with a beautifully designed website that you couldn’t be happier with. The website hosts a number of different locations, each showing unique opening times, menus, offers and different promotions.

Having finishes with Tweyelight and not deciding to go through with Sunrise Support, you would now like to update a menu, change opening hours at a specific branch, update blogs and switch some images of your staff pages as some have came and left.

The problem is, you still love the website and don’t want to go back to Tweyelight to ask them to redesign your site, but these things need to be changed. If you ask Tweyelight to add these bits in, of course they will but that’s more work, more hours and more expense for what should be an easy fix.

That’s where CMS comes in, because it is an easy fix. And the way Tweyelight design there websites this is something that is thought about, because we as much as anybody don’t want to have spend our time doing things you could do yourself.

Tweyelight will build certain pages to hold a robust CMS system that will allow you to go into at any time, make updates to certain fields, add or delete bits of content without having to worry about messing up the overall aesthetic of the site.

That Still Sounds Complicated, Where Can I Learn More?

Absolutely, much like anything else at Tweyelight Digital, we have put together resource packs for exactly how to use certain softwares, and understand and using CMS is no different. We will be with you every step of the way to help guide you on areas you once thought were complicated and helping you to overcome specific software fears.

We promise, that come the end of the project you will be fully understanding of how to update and refresh certain areas of your site, for larger scale updates that require redesigns and more thought, that’s where Sunrise Support kicks in!
