What Is Automation?

Automation in simple terms is making a machine do the task of a human. Now that may sound scary or even unnecessary but it can pose an enormous benefits to almost every business out there. Automations are often used to carry out tasks that are repetitive and simple but annoying for a human to have to do daily. It’s a technology that is rapidly advancing every day especially with the growth of AI.

To put it simply let’s look at the manufacturing process of cars. Yes a human can weld together every part, screw every nut and tighten every bolt just like they did in the early 1900’s, but they don’t any more, and for very good reason. Not only does it cost significantly more to hire 100s of mechanics, but it’s generally also slower and less accurate. Times have changed and now and as a result almost all manufacturing is machine driven. The same can be applied to lots of different parts of most businesses.

Automation isn’t limited to just business and your working life. It extends into our daily lives, too. For instance, smart homes carry out automations by using sensors and programmed routines to control lighting, thermostats, and security systems. This enables homeowners to save energy, enhance security, and improve convenience by automating tasks that were once manually managed.

The spine of automations lies in the programming of said automation. Developers write code that dictates how a system or machine should behave under different circumstances. These instructions determine when and how tasks should be performed, ensuring the automation process operates seamlessly and accurately.

Benefits of Automation

Automations are key when it comes to modernising your business from the ground up, offering many different benefits to you and your team around you, here’s a list of a few of what we believe to be the most important advantages of automation.

Higher efficiency and productivity

Automations not only streamline your workflow but also massively increase the efficiency of it. It accelerates operations, enabling businesses to achieve greater results in shorter periods. When routine tasks in your day-to-day are automated, efficiency increases, leading to massively increased productivity.

Enhanced accuracy and consistency

Automations almost entirely eliminates the chance of mistakes made by me or you. This precision has enormous benefits when it comes to outreaching to clients, organising to do lists and so much more.

Cost reduction

Although the upfront cost of setting up automations can seem high, the savings on staffing costs can be exponential. Once an automation is set up to filter inbound leads for example, this will continue to work whether the task is 50 leads per month or 500. Now try hiring someone who is equally happy to increase their workload by 10 fold without a pay rise!

Easy scalability and flexibility

Automation systems respond immediately to changes in patterns and requirements and can efficiently expand or reduce operations. Let’s look at the hospitality industry for example. Have you ever had it where a specific service is unavailable due to high demand? Guess who told you that message, thats right, an automation. The automation would have understood the demand had increased and automatically adjusted what it can offer at that certain time. This adaptability empowers businesses to manage surges in demand or changes in workload without heavy reliance on manual adjustments resulting in higher customer satisfaction.

Takeaways

And no not that type of takeaway… What can we take from this blog about automation’s. Well firstly they are always growing, new companies are popping up left, right and centre offering new automations and that means our possibilities are endless! We now know that they can help our business become a more streamlined and productive workflow exponentially with the potential to even reduce costs…

Fortunately I’m not a vegan because if someone offered me faster productivity, higher accuracy with long term financial savings I’d be bitting their hand off!
